Thank you for booking with Great Escape Cars.  We want you to really enjoy your time in our cars.  To help us do that please use the links on this page to gather the information you need before driving our cars - and to make the most of your experience.

Please read the advice below carefully.  You can find local tourism guides, advice for overseas drivers and car-by-car introductions by clicking here. We strongly recommend you read the car introductions before collecting your car.

 Important Notices

1. When you collect the car you MUST bring:

Your driving licence card

DVLA licence print out

Insurance declaration form

Without all three we cannot hire the car to you.

2. If you expect to be late arriving to collect your car please tell us in advance. If not we may not have a staff member available. 

3. Please make sure that you have a note of the collection address.

4. If you arrive early for your hire the end of your hire will have to be adjusted accordingly.  If you arrive late the hire end time cannot be extended. 

What you need to do now...

1.   Check the details

Carefully check the confirmation details in the email we sent you and notify us of any alterations within 7 days of receipt. We will always do our best to help but any changes to the hire after 7 days may incur additional costs. If you need to alter any of the hire arrangements please contact our head office on 01527 893733.

Please pay special attention to your appointment time. If you are late arriving at our unit we may not be able to complete the handover process and you may not be able to take your car until we have another free appointment. Please contact us if you have any problems with the handover time or if you are running late on the day. We will do all we can to rearrange your appointment time.

2.  Complete Drivers' Forms and Copy Driving Licences

Before you hire a car from us you must therefore visit the DVLA website and obtain a copy of your licence details.  Without this we cannot hire to you.

You can check the status of your licence by clicking on the image or link below. Please access the details and save them as a pdf.  You can then print a copy of this document and bring it with you when you collect the car (or give it to us if we are delivering the car). Please do not send us the activation code - or the pdf.

Check Your License Status

Driver Declaration Form

Please complete a Drivers' Form for each driver. You can find the forms by clicking here . Please print ONE PER DRIVER, complete them and bring them with you, with copies of each driver’s licence (CARD PARTS) and the DVLA print out.
We collect this information in order to complete pre-hire insurance checks. Receipt of driving licence copies does not replace your requirement to provide original licence paperwork on collection

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - If you don't bring these documents with you we cannot guarantee that you will be able to drive the car.

3.  Pay The Balance

If we are due to collect a balance payment, please note the collection date above.  We will automatically deduct the payment when it is due.  If you would prefer that we do not do this, please notify us now.

4.  Check The Terms & Conditions Which You Have Agreed To

5. Read The Confirmation Pack

6. Cooling off Period

We operate a 14 day cooling off period for cancellation (if your hire is less than 14 days from the date of your confirmation email then you are bound by our Terms which are here).

The Handover

Rental Agreement

When you collect your car we will ask you to sign a Rental Agreement, which records the condition of the car and the fuel level.  For clarity and transparency we will also ask you on this form to confirm your agreement to key aspects of the agreement between us. Insurance Excess

It is a condition of your hire that you agree to the insurance excess for your vehicle - £400 for cars under £200/day and £600 for those over £200 day. We do not take this money from you - we only ask for card details when you collect the car.  You will only be charged if the car is damaged.  If the damage is not your fault we will refund you when the insurance repairs and liability are agreed. We accept credit or debit cards.  We offer an optional Collision Damage Waiver policy for £25: more details here. 

Don't Forget...

When you collect your car it is essential that you bring the following:

1. Your driving licence - DVLA check AND card (or just the paper licence if you don't have a card).

We cannot accept just the card you must bring the DVLA check with you. 

2. A credit or debit card for the insurance excess (we do not deduct any payment from your card)

Without these documents you will not be able to hire a car from us.

Breakdown Policy

We work very hard to maintain our cars to a very high standard and to provide you with an enjoyable and memorable experience. We rarely have problems with our vehicles, but it should be noted that you are hiring an older car and occassionally things go wrong. We maintain our vehicles to a high standard and our service records are available on request for each car.

It is a condition of hire that the increased risk of breakdown is a known risk accepted by both parties. In the event of breakdown before or during your hire we will do everything we reasonably can to assist. In the event that your trip has to be cancelled or curtailed you can rebook your experience at any available time in the followign 12 months and we will add 50% of the original hire time free of charge. We do not provide refunds in the event of breakdowns. Please see Your Confirmation Pack for more details.

 Cancellations

If you decide to cancel the hire after the cooling off period then a sliding scale of charges will apply depending on how close to the hire you do this.  Please refer to our terms and conditions.

If you have booked a date for your car hire and we have to cancel the hire due to a breakdown, accident or other issue with the car we will offer an alternative vehicle for the original dates or the option to rearrange. If we provide the alternative car this will be free of charge - you can then return to hire the original car. As breakdowns are a known risk accepted by both parties a refund is not available in these circumstances
