SAAB 900 TURBO
There's more to Saabs than Sweden and snow. In the late 1970s Saab pioneered turbocharging for mass-produced cars with the iconic Saab 99. In the 1980s they took it one step further with the larger and more stylish Saab 900 Turbo, a car that set the benchmark for everyday performance executive cars. Today the Saab 900 is a hugely under-rated car offering blistering performance, excellent road holding and supreme comfort. Ideal, in fact, for a great day out driving or a fuss-free relaxing weekend away, particularly for anyone who loves performance cars, or who grew up in the 1980s.
The Great Escape Classic Car Saab 900 Turbo is the ultimate 16 valve full pressure turbo version. Its 175 bhp may not sound much today but in 1989, when this car was built, it was considered the maximum power that could be delivered via front wheel drive. The car is deceptively quick - in fact, we've tested it against a 911 and it is almost as fast. It features leather seats, cruise control, sunroof and of course typical 1980s bright red paintwork. Despite having a high mileage that is typical of these cars, the Great Escape car is in excellent condition and drives brilliantly thanks to significant mechanical and body work that amount to a virtual rebuild.
