During its life the Jensen Interceptor was available with four engine options, ranging in power from 284 to 330 bhp. The original Chrysler 6.3 litre V8 was used from Mark 1 to early Mark 3 models, when it was replaced by the unstressed 7.2 litre Chrysler V8, which was available in standard and SP Six Pack (six carburettor) versions. When the Jensen Interceptor was rejuvenated in the 1980s the Mark 4 car used the Chrysler 5.9 litre V8.
The 7.2 litre is the most common and the overall package of Jensen Interceptor Mark 3 aesthetics and 7.2 litre engine are more popular than earlier variants and make it ideal for classic car hire. The overhead valve motor is fitted with a four-barrel carburettor and produces about 300 bhp.
The Chrysler engine generates plenty of heat, which explains why Interceptor wings and bonnets are full of vents and louvres. Our car received a total engine rebuild in 2007 and was upgraded by the factory in 1989 including improvements like a louvred bonnet, more powerful fans and new wiring system to address the heat and electrical problems.
