The Jaguar XJ6 is the definitive, iconic Jaguar saloon.  Every Jaguar saloon since the 1960s has tried to echo the lines that were originally developed by Sir William Lyons.  This iconic Jaguar saloon was launched in 1968.

Influential online forum AROnline has named the Great Escape Jaguar XJ6 is one of its 12 2009 Cars of the Year.  The car has also featured in fashion shoots for New York label Tucker.

The Great Escape Classic Car Hire Jaguar XJ6 is an early Series 2 car from 1974 one of the first 2,500 Long wheel base (LWB) versions made.  It features the powerful and ultra-smooth 4.2 litre straight six with three speed automatic gearbox and leather interior.  It is fitted with front and rear seatbelts, including a central lap belt.

British Leyland and Jaguar created some fairly lurid colours during the 1970s but our car's combination of Sable paintwork, green leather interior and green tinted glass combines period charm with real style and character.  The car is immaculate and quite simply, we think it looks great.  The car's original buyer's taste echoed that of Sir William Lyons whose personal Jaguar XJ6 also featured Sable paintwork and was apparently his favourite Jaguar. 

The Great Escape Jaguar is an early LWB car, which adds an extra 4 inches of rear seat space.  This makes it ideal for weddings or a special weekend away with friends and family touring the Cotswolds.  The car has travelled just 36,000 miles since new and until we bought it in 2008 remained in the same family from new.  It is totally original, has never been restored and even features the original tax holder from the supplying dealer.  The car was supplied new by a dealer in Redditch to a local company director of a family firm, who bought the car from his company when he retired.
