On our fleet we have two cars that demonstrate those qualities - an Alfa Romeo Spider and an Alfa Romeo Alfasud.

Only the Italians could come up with a car like the classic Alfa Romeo Spider. Male or female, petrolhead or pure romantic, the classic Alfa Romeo Spider hits the mark. They are ideal for a romantic getaway and because every day's hire gives you 24 hours use, you can stay away even if you book the car for one day. You also get unlimited mileage, trip planning service, and use of our in-car leatherbound information pack, including a Great Escape-branded OS map. From our central base near Redditch just of the M5 and M42 you can reach the heart of the Cotswolds within 30 minutes or head for Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire or the Forest of Dean. Classic Cars magazine (http://www.classiccarsmagazine.co.uk/) included the Alfa Romeo Spider among its '21 Hottest Ragtops.' They describe the Alfa Romeo Spider as a 'delicate driving experience on the comfortable end of sporting' and note the 'romantic elegance' of the restyled Alfa Romeo Spider Series 4. The original Alfa Romeo Spider was known as the Duetto and was created by Alfa Romeo in 1966 to meet demand for a small, stylish and sporty two seater. It was designed to compete against MGs and Triumphs but in the UK, due to import duties, it actually cost more than a Jaguar E-Type (history).
In the late ‘80s Alfa Romeo commissioned Pininfarina to update its original design and launched the Series 4 in 1990. More luxurious than earlier versions, it still retains the essential charm of the original Duetto.
On the road the Alfas are simple, easy and rewarding to drive. The handling is precise, the steering communicative and the ride firm but very comfortable. It is great fun on twisting B-roads, but it is really at home in sweeping bends rather than corkscrew turns.
